Dust Collector Troubleshooting

A properly implemented dust collection system provides optimal performance and greatly reduces maintenance needs. As with any equipment, however, many issues may arise that can be resolved with a simple maintenance procedure. Below are some issues that you may encounter with your dust collection system:

• Lower Pressure Drop – Make sure that your pressure sensor lines are clean, check the collector for filter obstructions, and make sure you have the right sized equipment for the application.

• Dirty Discharge – Is your dust collector leaking in any areas? Check and tighten clamps and seals.

• Excessive Airflow Rate – Is your VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) set at the right speed? Make sure your ductwork is properly sized.

• Low Airflow Rate – Is there an obstruction in the ductwork?

Cartridge collectors are highly efficient in collection of dust with high bulk densities and fine dust particles. Filter cake forms well at low-pressure drop and has high filtration efficiency. In a study conducted by the American Foundry Society it was found that the outlet dust flow in cartridge collectors was the least in comparison with other dust collectors in foundry operations.
