Safety Inspections of Southern Auto Suppliers
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been alarmed by higher than normal incidents of injuries and safety lapses. They have started an inspection of auto parts plants throughout Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. The federal safety agency plans to send agents to inspect 2,900 factories over the coming year. In 2012, Alabama auto parts manufacturing had 4.8 ISHA injury and illness incidents per 100 employees, and Georgia had 3.7 per 100. OSHA has seen increased levels of incidents from inadequate machine safety guards. OSHA fines can range from $5,000 up to $200,000 per infraction.
