Volvo chooses South Carolina for first U.S. plant
Rumors of a Volvo site search for a Southern Auto Corridor plant have circulated from time to time for over 25 years. On Monday, May 11, 2015, those rumors became reality as Volvo Cars of North America announced it will build a $500 million OEM facility in Berkeley County, S.C. The deal, which will create up to 2,000 jobs, is expected to earn approximately $204 million in incentives. The project is expected to be completed in 2018. South Carolina won the Volvo facility over a site near Savannah, Ga.
