Health and safety issues are being taken very seriously by a growing number of companies as OSHA, International, and industry standards increase. Many large US manufacturers are planning ahead and adopting European exposure limits as a global standard for their entire company and are exceeding OSHA Standards. To meet these standards companies must implement a highly efficient dust and fume filtration system to filter out the harmful particulate.  The exposure limits these companies are targeting range from .02 – 1 mg/m3 depending on company policy, well below the 5 mg/m3 standard set by OSHA.

Magnetic fume extractors use high-strength magnets to securely attach to steel work surfaces, welding tables, or fixtures, allowing fast and simple placement without permanent mounting. During welding operations, a wide range of base metals, coatings, and consumables can generate hazardous fumes and unpleasant odors that pose health and safety risks.

The extractor is engineered to capture these contaminants directly at the source. As welding fumes are produced, the system draws contaminated air into the capture hood and pulls it through a high-efficiency filtration system. Within the filters, harmful particulate matter and gaseous byproducts are trapped, preventing them from recirculating into the work environment. The cleaned air is then safely returned to the workspace or exhausted as required.

By combining flexible magnetic mounting with effective source capture, magnetic fume extractors help improve indoor air quality, reduce odors, and support OSHA compliance—while protecting welders and maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more productive workplace.

Installation and operation are intentionally straightforward. The aluminum magnetic hood attaches securely to any ferrous metal surface, allowing the unit to be positioned quickly without tools or permanent mounting. Once in place, the system is activated with a simple power-on, immediately beginning source capture at the welding arc.


The high-strength magnetic mount keeps the hood firmly secured during operation, ensuring consistent fume capture while the filtration system removes hazardous particulate and odors from the air. Because the extractor is lightweight and easily repositioned, it is well suited for facilities that require flexibility—making it convenient to move between workstations, welding booths, or temporary job sites without disrupting productivity.

This Fume Dog weld fume extractor works with TIG, MIG, and stick welding, and is best suited for up to two shifts per day.

There are multiple factors to consider when determining how frequently you will need to replace your filters, such as:
• Hours of usage per day
• The type of material you’re working with. For example, oil-coated metal will generate thicker fume and smoke than metals that are not oil-coated, ultimately impacting the lifespan of your filters.

It is typically recommended that you inspect your filters at least every 4-6 months.
